Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.58%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.43%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 3.75% or 6.73 points to trade at 186.27 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 2.89% or 7.09 points to end at 252.51 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 2.82% or 5.89 points to 214.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 0.67% or 1.87 points to trade at 276.78 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 0.17% or 0.19 points to end at 108.97 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) gained 0.79% or 1.46 points to 187.11.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which rose 10.07% to 10.49, Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which was up 9.09% to settle at 9.12 and Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) which gained 5.24% to close at 120.66.
The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 6.89% to 165.13 in late trade, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which lost 6.27% to settle at 167.82 and Charles River Laboratories (NYSE:CRL) which was down 3.92% to 201.94 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Larkspur Health Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:LSPR) which rose 132.20% to 22.50, Healthcare Triangle Inc (NASDAQ:HCTI) which was up 121.11% to settle at 0.35 and China Jo-Jo Drugstores Inc (NASDAQ:CJJD) which gained 114.80% to close at 7.11.
The worst performers were Adicet Bio Inc (NASDAQ:ACET) which was down 39.64% to 10.43 in late trade, SHF Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SHFS) which lost 34.74% to settle at 2.16 and Terawulf Inc (NASDAQ:WULF) which was down 33.48% to 0.80 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2046 to 1057 and 108 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2202 rose and 1496 declined, while 221 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 9.51% to 25.00 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.99% or 17.95 to $1,792.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.53% or 2.51 to hit $73.53 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.90% or 2.21 to trade at $78.31 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 0.81% to 137.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 104.63.
