Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 6.21% or 0.43 points to trade at 7.35 at the close. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) added 6.10% or 0.05 points to end at 0.87 and B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) was up 5.94% or 0.23 points to 4.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which lost 5.74% or 0.27 points to trade at 4.43 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 3.91% or 1.61 points to end at 39.54 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) shed 3.53% or 1.07 points to 29.22.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 571 to 405 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.02% to 21.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.70% or 12.05 to $1,721.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.59% or 0.51 to hit $87.12 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.03% or 0.95 to trade at $93.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 109.55.
