Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU), which rose 5.80% or 0.210 points to trade at 3.830 at the close. Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) added 4.89% or 0.71 points to end at 15.22 and Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) was up 3.65% or 0.90 points to 25.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included New Flyer Industries Inc (TO:NFI), which lost 5.83% or 2.34 points to trade at 37.83 in late trade. Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) declined 5.06% or 0.240 points to end at 4.500 and Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) shed 4.09% or 0.23 points to 5.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 619 to 520 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.99% to 14.98.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.01% or 0.15 to $1255.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.87% or 0.44 to hit $49.91 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.81% or 0.42 to trade at $51.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7615, while CAD/EUR fell 0.19% to 0.6923.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 97.87.
