Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the REITs, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL), which rose 6.72% or 0.42 points to trade at 6.67 at the close. Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) added 6.11% or 0.32 points to end at 5.56 and Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA) was up 4.10% or 0.22 points to 5.58 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP (TSX:BIP_u), which lost 4.39% or 1.74 points to trade at 37.90 in late trade. EQB Inc (TSX:EQB) declined 4.25% or 3.88 points to end at 87.52 and OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) shed 4.22% or 0.14 points to 3.18.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 558 to 411 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.09% to 11.52.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.50% or 11.80 to $2,350.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.14% or 0.97 to hit $86.20 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.15% or 1.03 to trade at $90.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.80% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.00% at 104.96.
