Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the REITs, Materials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which rose 2.64% or 4.10 points to trade at 159.45 at the close. Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) added 2.35% or 0.51 points to end at 22.20 and Saputo Inc (TSX:SAP) was up 2.04% or 0.56 points to 28.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which lost 6.71% or 0.91 points to trade at 12.66 in late trade. Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) declined 6.70% or 1.33 points to end at 18.51 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) shed 6.60% or 0.45 points to 6.37.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 642 to 307 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.38% to 12.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.05% or 21.30 to $2,008.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.19% or 0.14 to hit $72.66 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.29 to trade at $78.00 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.18% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 103.15.
