Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Real Estate and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.28%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 2.44% or 11.20 points to trade at 469.30 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 2.25% or 3.25 points to end at 147.60 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 2.07% or 15.40 points to 759.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST), which lost 1.59% or 324.80 points to trade at 20,063.50 in late trade. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) declined 1.20% or 11.20 points to end at 921.75 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 1.06% or 8.85 points to 829.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 1.84% to 1,065.05, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.66% to settle at 113.00 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.63% to close at 171.95.
The worst performers were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.82% to 20,020.60 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 1.16% to settle at 921.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.13% to 828.60 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1037 to 863 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1937 rose and 1470 declined, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was unchanged 0.02% to 12.89.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.32% or 5.80 to $1,819.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.93% or 0.70 to hit $76.09 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.84% or 0.68 to trade at $81.36 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.12% to 82.48, while EUR/INR rose 0.35% to 87.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 103.39.
