Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, IT and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.32% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.27%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 5.54% or 31.50 points to trade at 600.50 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.79% or 6.20 points to end at 169.90 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 3.74% or 21.75 points to 604.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 2.20% or 3.80 points to trade at 168.80 in late trade. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 2.10% or 69.55 points to end at 3244.60 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) shed 1.95% or 21.55 points to 1083.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 5.60% to 600.50, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 3.80% to settle at 604.50 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.97% to close at 1934.30.

The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.41% to 3233.25 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 2.26% to settle at 1080.40 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.00% to 169.20 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 999 to 641 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1480 fell and 1054 advanced, while 159 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.24% to 25.2525.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.59% or 10.70 to $1812.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.10% or 0.85 to hit $39.70 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.78% or 0.77 to trade at $42.47 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.04% to 75.219, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 85.1530.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 96.525.
