Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Public Sector Undertakings and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.59%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 4.54% or 20.80 points to trade at 479.20 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 4.52% or 19.55 points to end at 452.35 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 2.38% or 23.70 points to 1,019.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 12.42% or 72.35 points to trade at 510.10 in late trade. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 3.67% or 78.80 points to end at 2,068.55 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) shed 1.12% or 111.45 points to 9,852.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 2.46% to 1,020.10, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 2.13% to settle at 1,069.20 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.99% to close at 511.40.
The worst performers were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 1.03% to 9,859.00 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 0.80% to settle at 1,646.60 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 0.60% to 3,562.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1187 to 951 and 36 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2095 fell and 1611 advanced, while 84 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.59% to 15.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.36% or 7.35 to $2,040.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.14% or 0.88 to hit $77.80 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.12% or 0.92 to trade at $82.92 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 83.00, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 89.42.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 104.01.
