Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.82% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 5.10% or 9.40 points to trade at 193.75 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 4.23% or 172.00 points to end at 4244.80 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 4.29% or 20.05 points to 484.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 2.30% or 507.35 points to trade at 21600.85 in late trade. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 0.90% or 28.35 points to end at 3121.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) shed 0.98% or 4.80 points to 487.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which rose 5.28% to 79.75, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 5.12% to settle at 193.85 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 3.68% to close at 484.95.
The worst performers were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 0.72% to 3124.25 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 0.57% to settle at 2157.45 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.30% to 734.70 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1179 to 375 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1654 rose and 753 declined, while 159 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.93% to 11.4900.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.05% or 0.75 to $1522.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.34% or 0.21 to hit $61.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.39 to trade at $66.39 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.20% to 71.362, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 79.8795.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 96.350.
