Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Healthcare and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 4.97% or 37.95 points to trade at 798.75 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 4.78% or 1286.45 points to end at 28047.35 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 3.88% or 65.05 points to 1729.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 4.22% or 24.50 points to trade at 554.30 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 3.93% or 8.00 points to end at 194.90 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) shed 2.94% or 65.35 points to 2157.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 4.44% to 797.35, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 2.77% to settle at 1455.80 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 2.13% to close at 3410.00.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 4.06% to 195.10 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 3.99% to settle at 556.25 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 3.07% to 2156.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 889 to 715 and 23 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1434 fell and 1273 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 11.44% to 14.1075.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.01% or 0.20 to $1342.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.80% or 0.52 to hit $65.25 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.61 to trade at $69.50 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.26% to 63.835, while EUR/INR rose 0.59% to 79.3852.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 88.89.
