Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.83%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 1.14% or 3.85 points to trade at 342.75 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 1.17% or 26.30 points to end at 2270.60 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 0.59% or 1.55 points to 266.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 3.51% or 8.15 points to trade at 224.30 in late trade. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) declined 3.05% or 5.30 points to end at 168.60 and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) shed 3.03% or 9.75 points to 313.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 0.76% to 266.15, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 0.30% to settle at 164.85 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.20% to close at 2025.40.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 3.55% to 224.05 in late trade, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which lost 2.00% to settle at 362.65 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.94% to 895.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1242 to 367 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1878 fell and 676 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.36% to 12.9200.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 1.20 to $1281.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.34% or 0.88 to hit $64.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.46 to trade at $74.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.37% to 68.295, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 78.8965.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 94.84.
