Investing.com – Russia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX declined 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were Polymetal International PLC (MCX:POLY), which rose 8.59% or 50.00 points to trade at 632.00 at the close. MVideo (MCX:MVID) added 7.68% or 28.20 points to end at 395.50 and Ros Agro PLC (MCX:AGRODR) was up 2.44% or 19 points to 799 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Moskovskaya Birzha OAO (MCX:MOEX), which lost 4.64% or 5.96 points to trade at 122.50 in late trade. Aeroflot (MCX:AFLT) declined 4.19% or 6.40 points to end at 146.20 and Severstal - ao (MCX:CHMF) shed 2.82% or 27.60 points to 950.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 117 to 111 and 17 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 2.46% to 24.960.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.55% or 6.35 to $1165.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.45% or 0.77 to hit $52.21 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.08% or 0.60 to trade at $55.12 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 1.12% to 61.2796, while EUR/RUB rose 1.32% to 65.287.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 100.86.
