Investing.com - Canadian equities started with gains on Monday, with rises in majority of the sectors, the most notable ones being the Health Care, Consumer Discretionary Index, REIT and Financial sectors, while Materials and Industrials fell.
At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index rose 0.15%. However, the TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap were down. The TSX Venture dropped 0.54%, while the Smallcap fell slightly by 0.05%.

- Tilray (TSX:TLRY): Climbed 3.42% or 0.08 points to 2.42
- Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG): Rose 2.64% or 0.55 points to 21.36
- Sleep Country (TSX:ZZZ) Canada: Increased 2.01% or 0.51 points to 25.89
Top Losers:
- Cameco (TSX:CCO): Dropped 2.54% or 1.73 points to 66.30
- Denison Mines (NYSE:DNN): Declined 1.94% or 0.06 points to 2.79
- Stella-Jones (TSX:SJ) Inc.: Fell 2.24% or 1.97 points to 86.03
In Commodities Trading:
- Crude Oil for August delivery declined 0.74 points to 82.42 a barrel.
- September Brent Oil Contract fell with 0.82% or 0.71 drop to 85.83 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for August delivery dropped 16.60 points to 2,381.10 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD is calm at 1.36.
- EUR/CAD is stable at 1.47.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 104.505
Main Economic Events:
Canada's economic calendar for the week is calm with only CFTC CAD speculative net positions today, IPSOS PCSI for July on Wednesday and monthly building permits on Friday.
