Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Telecoms and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.15% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.42%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 1.34% or 3.55 points to trade at 267.84 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 1.18% or 2.29 points to end at 196.30 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 1.01% or 2.24 points to 223.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.48% or 5.51 points to trade at 368.00 in late trade. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) declined 0.98% or 1.32 points to end at 133.77 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) shed 0.71% or 0.39 points to 54.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Helmerich and Payne Inc (NYSE:HP) which rose 6.56% to 40.46, Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which was up 6.19% to settle at 17.490 and Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which gained 6.17% to close at 19.10.
The worst performers were Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) which was down 4.30% to 169.06 in late trade, PVH Corp (NYSE:PVH) which lost 2.60% to settle at 97.45 and CME Group Inc (NASDAQ:CME) which was down 2.38% to 200.98 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Paringa Resources Ltd (NASDAQ:PNRL) which rose 253.74% to 5.20, Aslan Pharmaceuticals Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ASLN) which was up 81.25% to settle at 2.32 and GreenPro Capital Corp (NASDAQ:GRNQ) which gained 45.60% to close at 0.628999.
The worst performers were Nanthealth LLC (NASDAQ:NH) which was down 24.83% to 1.09 in late trade, Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ:CENT) which lost 17.53% to settle at 25.88 and Central Garden & Pet Company A (NASDAQ:CENTA) which was down 17.39% to 24.51 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1775 to 1034 and 113 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1723 rose and 892 declined, while 99 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.82% to 11.75.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.44% or 6.45 to $1460.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.46% or 0.27 to hit $58.14 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $63.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.08% to 1.1007, while USD/JPY fell 0.03% to 109.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 98.330.
