Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Telecoms and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.69%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which rose 2.85% or 1.10 points to trade at 39.70 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 2.54% or 5.91 points to end at 238.91 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 1.62% or 5.78 points to 363.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 1.75% or 1.05 points to trade at 59.09 in late trade. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) declined 0.99% or 4.86 points to end at 486.37 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 0.82% or 1.40 points to 169.08.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL) which rose 14.23% to 75.84, General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) which was up 8.30% to settle at 162.66 and Danaher Corporation (NYSE:DHR) which gained 7.21% to close at 253.11.
The worst performers were LKQ Corporation (NASDAQ:LKQ) which was down 14.88% to 41.65 in late trade, MSCI Inc (NYSE:MSCI) which lost 13.41% to settle at 446.09 and Nucor Corp (NYSE:NUE) which was down 8.92% to 174.54 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) which rose 1,931.80% to 4.51, NewGenIvf Group Ltd (NASDAQ:NIVF) which was up 74.22% to settle at 2.23 and MMTEC Inc (NASDAQ:MTC) which gained 42.68% to close at 2.24.
The worst performers were Abeona Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ABEO) which was down 53.67% to 3.41 in late trade, Greenwave Technology Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:GWAV) which lost 44.66% to settle at 0.07 and Lichen China Ltd (NASDAQ:LICN) which was down 42.86% to 0.56 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2302 to 561 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2410 rose and 954 declined, while 119 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.38% to 15.69.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.42% or 9.85 to $2,336.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.81% or 1.48 to hit $83.38 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.66% or 1.44 to trade at $88.44 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.45% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 154.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 105.53.
