Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.35%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.59%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 1.66% or 1.22 points to trade at 74.72 at the close. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) added 1.35% or 1.07 points to end at 80.13 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was up 0.74% or 0.83 points to 113.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 2.28% or 1.04 points to trade at 44.67 in late trade. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 2.14% or 4.75 points to end at 217.36 and Visa Inc (NYSE:V) shed 2.02% or 2.83 points to 137.23.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were L3 Technologies Inc (NYSE:LLL) which rose 12.84% to 220.91, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) which was up 11.87% to settle at 173.25 and Range Resources Corporation (NYSE:RRC) which gained 5.31% to close at 17.65.
The worst performers were Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) which was down 6.13% to 72.24 in late trade, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which lost 4.53% to settle at 235.38 and Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) which was down 4.36% to 238.01 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Flex Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:FLKS) which rose 79.25% to 0.95, Globus Maritime Ltd (NASDAQ:GLBS) which was up 41.30% to settle at 6.5000 and Auris Medical Holding AG (NASDAQ:EARS) which gained 40.82% to close at 1.380.
The worst performers were Soligenix Inc (NASDAQ:SNGX) which was down 26.21% to 1.0700 in late trade, Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ:SHLD) which lost 23.83% to settle at 0.31 and Torm PLC Class A (NASDAQ:TRMD) which was down 2.67% to 6.200 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1803 to 1268 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1422 rose and 1223 declined, while 78 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.05% to 21.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.71% or 8.70 to $1230.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.46% or 0.33 to hit $71.67 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.44% or 0.35 to trade at $80.78 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.18% to 1.1580, while USD/JPY fell 0.39% to 111.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 94.75.
