Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.65% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.79%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 2.89% or 11.26 points to trade at 400.75 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 1.74% or 0.62 points to end at 36.31 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.43% or 6.26 points to 445.46 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 7.33% or 21.57 points to trade at 272.75 in late trade. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 2.19% or 3.86 points to end at 172.69 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 1.96% or 8.26 points to 413.64.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were M&T Bank Corp (NYSE:MTB) which rose 4.70% to 140.88, Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) which was up 2.89% to settle at 400.75 and Veralto Corp (NYSE:VLTO) which gained 2.85% to close at 89.86.
The worst performers were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) which was down 7.33% to 272.75 in late trade, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which lost 5.59% to settle at 161.48 and Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL) which was down 5.53% to 55.82 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Kaival Brands Innovations Group Inc (NASDAQ:KAVL) which rose 135.96% to 6.30, Longeveron LLC (NASDAQ:LGVN) which was up 73.37% to settle at 2.93 and Hub Cyber Security Ltd (NASDAQ:HUBC) which gained 50.00% to close at 1.95.
The worst performers were Marinus Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:MRNS) which was down 82.71% to 1.30 in late trade, Complete Solaria Inc (NASDAQ:CSLR) which lost 45.92% to settle at 0.26 and Swvl Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SWVL) which was down 38.88% to 8.11 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2377 to 490 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2619 fell and 734 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 11.09% to 19.23 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.01% or 24.00 to $2,398.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $85.62 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.12 to trade at $90.33 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.63% to 154.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 106.01.
