Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.12%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 6.49% or 38.40 points to trade at 629.95 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 4.76% or 7.00 points to end at 154.15 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was up 3.53% or 51.65 points to 1515.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which lost 2.28% or 124.25 points to trade at 5320.65 in late trade. Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) declined 2.19% or 608.60 points to end at 27240.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 2.08% or 21.65 points to 1018.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 3.54% to 1515.45, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 2.96% to settle at 118.30 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 2.22% to close at 962.15.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.05% to 1018.40 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 2.01% to settle at 5334.90 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 1.81% to 6687.25 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 896 to 782 and 84 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1665 rose and 1356 declined, while 199 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.46% to 24.6750.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.49% or 8.35 to $1690.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $66.05 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.12 to trade at $69.24 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.04% to 73.207, while EUR/INR fell 0.26% to 86.9700.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 92.188.
