Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Auto and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.41% to hit a new 52-week high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 2.23% or 3.10 points to trade at 142.35 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 2.20% or 4.65 points to end at 216.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 1.87% or 16.75 points to 911.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which lost 6.09% or 15.05 points to trade at 232.15 in late trade. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) declined 1.01% or 5.45 points to end at 533.40 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) shed 0.71% or 12.50 points to 1,736.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 2.20% to 215.90, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 1.92% to settle at 912.10 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 1.64% to close at 835.10.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 0.76% to 1,705.35 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 0.60% to settle at 345.15 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 0.43% to 2,606.70 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1012 to 881 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1805 fell and 1590 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.84% to 14.64.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.13% or 2.30 to $1,779.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.98% or 0.84 to hit $85.03 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.67 to trade at $92.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 81.03, while EUR/INR rose 1.11% to 84.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.63% at 105.86.
