Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.49% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.90%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 0.69% or 0.27 points to trade at 39.32 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 0.69% or 1.16 points to end at 169.88 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) was up 0.60% or 0.77 points to 130.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 4.77% or 4.30 points to trade at 85.78 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 2.74% or 2.90 points to end at 103.05 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) shed 1.86% or 6.01 points to 317.33.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) which rose 1.58% to 31.54, Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) which was up 1.53% to settle at 41.82 and Quest Diagnostics Incorporated (NYSE:DGX) which gained 1.48% to close at 151.45.
The worst performers were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was down 6.66% to 9.25 in late trade, Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which lost 6.01% to settle at 9.54 and CarMax Inc (NYSE:KMX) which was down 5.45% to 58.09 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Madrigal Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:MDGL) which rose 268.07% to 234.83, Axcella Health Inc (NASDAQ:AXLA) which was up 165.27% to settle at 0.43 and Soleno Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SLNO) which gained 103.86% to close at 1.85.
The worst performers were Cosmos Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:COSM) which was down 67.01% to 7.59 in late trade, Schmitt Industries Inc (NASDAQ:SMIT) which lost 44.88% to settle at 0.46 and 180 Life Sciences Corp (NASDAQ:ATNF) which was down 44.79% to 2.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2239 to 878 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2697 fell and 1050 advanced, while 179 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.93% to 22.41.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.21% or 3.85 to $1,796.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.87% or 1.39 to hit $75.85 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.44% or 1.14 to trade at $80.18 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.19% to 136.95.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 104.33.
