Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Technology and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.24% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.46%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 0.86% or 1.51 points to trade at 176.55 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) added 0.31% or 0.68 points to end at 221.08 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 0.15% or 0.41 points to 276.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which lost 6.47% or 12.64 points to trade at 182.79 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 5.16% or 1.94 points to end at 35.69 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shed 2.63% or 3.08 points to 114.07.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL) which rose 20.17% to 59.09, State Street Corp (NYSE:STT) which was up 2.54% to settle at 75.79 and Kimco Realty Corp (NYSE:KIM) which gained 0.95% to close at 18.11.
The worst performers were Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which was down 8.48% to 271.43 in late trade, Zoetis Inc (NYSE:ZTS) which lost 7.84% to settle at 149.98 and FMC Corporation (NYSE:FMC) which was down 7.78% to 56.75 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were C3is Inc (NASDAQ:CISS) which rose 6,375.69% to 1.87, Paxmedica Inc (NASDAQ:PXMD) which was up 102.17% to settle at 0.84 and Mobilehealth Network Solutions (NASDAQ:MNDR) which gained 47.06% to close at 15.00.
The worst performers were Motus GI Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MOTS) which was down 37.54% to 0.26 in late trade, Lixiang Education Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LXEH) which lost 32.62% to settle at 0.44 and Soluna Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SLNH) which was down 26.69% to 1.62 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2400 to 472 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2675 fell and 703 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 16.10% to 17.31 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.56% or 13.30 to $2,359.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.56% or 0.48 to hit $85.50 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.49 to trade at $90.23 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.76% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 153.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.71% at 105.81.
