Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.45%, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.54%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which rose 0.88% or 0.95 points to trade at 108.45 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 0.29% or 0.44 points to end at 153.51 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 0.22% or 0.34 points to 153.69 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 3.66% or 6.53 points to trade at 171.83 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 3.41% or 4.40 points to end at 124.64 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shed 3.22% or 3.18 points to 95.69.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT) which rose 13.36% to 46.92, Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which was up 4.36% to settle at 78.20 and Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which gained 1.98% to close at 457.24.
The worst performers were VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was down 5.62% to 32.41 in late trade, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which lost 5.48% to settle at 5.52 and NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ:NXPI) which was down 4.97% to 164.10 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Secoo Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:SECO) which fell 15.33% to 2.37, NanoVibronix Inc (NASDAQ:NAOV) which was up 144.27% to settle at 0.63 and Taboola (NASDAQ:TBLA) which gained 43.48% to close at 2.64.
The worst performers were CinCor Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:CINC) which was down 46.81% to 14.11 in late trade, Troika Media Group Inc (NASDAQ:TRKA) which lost 30.90% to settle at 0.16 and TC BioPharm Holdings PLC (NASDAQ:TCBP) which was down 31.91% to 4.61 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2432 to 696 and 96 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2759 fell and 1067 advanced, while 195 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 8.29% to 22.20.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.83% or 14.50 to $1,739.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.47% or 0.36 to hit $76.64 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.47% or 0.39 to trade at $83.32 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.53% to 1.03, while USD/JPY fell 0.14% to 138.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 106.61.
