Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Technology, Basic Materials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.39%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.75%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which rose 1.42% or 2.59 points to trade at 184.55 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 0.89% or 3.03 points to end at 344.85 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 0.75% or 4.11 points to 555.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 2.20% or 0.64 points to trade at 28.43 in late trade. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 1.59% or 3.74 points to end at 232.13 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) shed 1.58% or 0.75 points to 46.73.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which rose 9.61% to 63.90, Coterra Energy Inc (NYSE:CTRA) which was up 3.49% to settle at 31.15 and DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which gained 3.47% to close at 72.99.
The worst performers were Global Payments Inc (NYSE:GPN) which was down 8.83% to 114.25 in late trade, Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:NWL) which lost 8.24% to settle at 13.81 and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) which was down 6.09% to 93.16 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sonnet Biotherapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SONN) which rose 66.38% to 1.93, Acorda Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ACOR) which was up 63.36% to settle at 1.07 and Shineco Inc (NASDAQ:SISI) which gained 37.96% to close at 1.09.
The worst performers were Y mAbs Therapeutics (NASDAQ:YMAB) which was down 59.80% to 3.61 in late trade, Tusimple Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:TSP) which lost 45.64% to settle at 3.43 and Bull Horn Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ:COEP) which was down 45.61% to 6.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1604 to 1472 and 118 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2004 fell and 1753 advanced, while 165 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.50% to 25.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.53% or 8.65 to $1,636.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.97% or 1.73 to hit $86.17 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.32% or 1.24 to trade at $92.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.80% to 0.99, while USD/JPY rose 0.87% to 148.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.77% at 111.46.
