Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.03%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.04%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 1.32% or 1.17 points to trade at 90.01 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.20% or 4.29 points to end at 362.16 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.00% or 0.91 points to 91.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 1.89% or 0.73 points to trade at 37.98 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 1.53% or 5.82 points to end at 373.48 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 1.09% or 1.40 points to 126.59.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which rose 6.67% to 131.69, Camden Property Trust (NYSE:CPT) which was up 5.69% to settle at 102.12 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 4.90% to close at 172.98.
The worst performers were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was down 7.60% to 11.06 in late trade, CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which lost 6.26% to settle at 79.78 and Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ:FTNT) which was down 3.55% to 68.39 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Eco Wave Power Global AB ADR (NASDAQ:WAVE) which rose 213.43% to 4.20, Auddia Inc (NASDAQ:AUUD) which was up 147.55% to settle at 3.54 and Biosig Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BSGM) which gained 96.83% to close at 1.24.
The worst performers were Perion Network Ltd (NASDAQ:PERI) which was down 40.79% to 12.50 in late trade, 22nd Century Group Inc (NASDAQ:XXII) which lost 40.17% to settle at 2.13 and Selina Hospitality (NASDAQ:SLNA) which was down 27.40% to 0.04 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1712 to 1131 and 77 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1859 rose and 1486 declined, while 126 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.24% to 15.19.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.51% or 11.95 to $2,357.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.45% or 0.39 to hit $86.52 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.66 to trade at $90.51 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.16% to 151.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 103.92.
