Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms, Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.06%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.22%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 2.96% or 14.17 points to trade at 493.16 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) added 1.88% or 3.88 points to end at 210.46 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 0.95% or 0.90 points to 95.74 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which lost 1.82% or 7.51 points to trade at 404.33 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.79% or 0.64 points to end at 35.04 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) shed 1.62% or 4.47 points to 271.85.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Genuine Parts Co (NYSE:GPC) which rose 11.22% to 160.24, United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which was up 5.50% to settle at 51.42 and Estee Lauder Companies Inc (NYSE:EL) which gained 4.93% to close at 144.84.
The worst performers were Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) which was down 8.64% to 45.89 in late trade, Equifax Inc (NYSE:EFX) which lost 8.45% to settle at 217.60 and Snap-On Inc (NYSE:SNA) which was down 7.62% to 261.89 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were AGBA Acquisition Ltd (NASDAQ:AGBA) which rose 152.54% to 1.02, iSpecimen Inc (NASDAQ:ISPC) which was up 97.65% to settle at 0.42 and Tian Ruixiang Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:TIRX) which gained 64.95% to close at 0.80.
The worst performers were WiSA Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:WISA) which was down 36.32% to 5.89 in late trade, Supercom Ltd (NASDAQ:SPCB) which lost 33.31% to settle at 0.24 and Murano Global Investments Plc (NASDAQ:MRNO) which was down 31.24% to 7.22 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1437 to 1415 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1748 fell and 1592 advanced, while 146 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.15% to 18.00.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.22% or 5.30 to $2,393.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.16% or 0.13 to hit $82.56 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.36 to trade at $86.93 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.18% to 154.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 106.00.
