Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Basic Materials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.30%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.11%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 2.06% or 3.32 points to trade at 164.15 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 1.77% or 1.87 points to end at 107.44 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.03% or 0.34 points to 33.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 2.99% or 2.74 points to trade at 89.02 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 1.07% or 2.54 points to end at 235.72 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) shed 0.95% or 0.53 points to 55.45.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were News Corp B (NASDAQ:NWS) which rose 4.73% to 21.69, News Corp A (NASDAQ:NWSA) which was up 4.58% to settle at 21.24 and Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) which gained 3.48% to close at 211.23.
The worst performers were Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:BBWI) which was down 5.11% to 36.99 in late trade, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which lost 5.01% to settle at 651.97 and Teradyne Inc (NASDAQ:TER) which was down 4.41% to 101.73 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:AMRS) which rose 107.74% to 0.14, Telesat Corp (NASDAQ:TSAT) which was up 53.49% to settle at 12.97 and WANG & LEE GROUP Inc (NASDAQ:WLGS) which gained 43.97% to close at 1.15.
The worst performers were Yield10 Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:YTEN) which was down 55.45% to 0.45 in late trade, Atreca Inc (NASDAQ:BCEL) which lost 36.57% to settle at 0.56 and Imperial Petroleum Inc (NASDAQ:IMPP) which was down 35.70% to 1.63 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1532 to 1358 and 105 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1841 fell and 1653 advanced, while 120 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.37% to 14.84.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.18% or 3.55 to $1,945.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.34% or 0.28 to hit $83.10 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.27% or 0.23 to trade at $86.63 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.14% to 144.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 102.72.
